I. Basic Words of Affiliation

  • Editor / Publisher / Affiliate: A person or company that promotes an advertiser's products or services in exchange for a commission on sales or actions generated.

  • Advertiser / merchant / store / Advertiser / Customer / Brand  : A company that offers products or services and wishes to promote them via an affiliate platform.

  • Affiliate platform: System allowing affiliates to promote the products or services of an advertiser in exchange for a commission.

  • Programme d'affiliation : Paid commercial partnership with affiliates within an affiliate platform

  • Commission : The remuneration that an affiliate receives for each sale, action or lead generated thanks to their promotion.

  • Affiliate Group : Corresponds to a group of publishers and their associated remuneration.

  • Commissioning rules : Rules that govern an affiliate program can be old and new customers or all sales, all leads, etc.

  • Advertising bannere: A graphic element (image or animation) used to promote a product or service on a website.

  • Pay increase (HDR) : Increase in the publisher's remuneration over a defined period.

  • Insertion order (OI) : Contract authorizing the publisher to integrate the advertiser into content, generally email or media.

  • Good to Draw (BAT) : Preview of the promotion device that must be validated, thus authorizing the distribution of the content, generally email.

  • Highlighting (MEA) :refers to the promotion or specific highlighting of a product, service or offer to the target audience.

  • Fixed costs (FF) / Paid : fixed expense that must be incurred to implement and maintain marketing initiatives, regardless of sales volume or scale of campaigns

Knowing the fundamentals of affiliation will allow you to ensure an understanding of the requests during your collaborations with your partners!

II. Affiliation tools :

  • Tracking cookie : A small text file stored on a user's computer after clicking on an affiliate link, allowing their actions to be tracked and appropriate commissions assigned

  • Tracking : Tracking actions taken by users, such as clicks, sales and leads, in order to allocate commissions correctly.

  • Deep linking :Directing users to a specific page of a website, rather than the home page, to improve the relevance of the promotion.

  • Link cloaking :The technique of hiding affiliate links to make them more user-friendly or to prevent commission theft.

  • Session duration :The session duration corresponds to the way in which Affilae reports clicks made on the same link from the same IP address. The standard duration is 30 minutes.

  • Overcap : The capping set up beforehand has been achieved and will be visible by this mention on Affilae in the clicks tab.

III. Types of affiliations :

There are a variety of structures that define how brands and affiliates come together to propel their products or services onto the digital scene, we are going to educate you on these three:

  • White label affiliation : Form of affiliation where the products or services are marketed under the affiliate's brand.

  • Gray label affiliation : Form of affiliation where the products or services are marketed under the advertiser's brand with certain adaptations.

  • Black label affiliation : Form of affiliation where the products or services are marketed under the advertiser's brand without any adaptation.

IV. Types of attribution models :

On the Affilae platform, there are three types of attributions, which is the method used to attribute a specific conversion or action to a particular affiliate.

We have three:

  • Attribution in Share format : All affiliates who intervened in the conversion funnel will receive a % of the sale. They will share the commission.

  • Last Click Attribution:The affiliate whose link generated the last click before conversion receives attribution for the sale or action.

  • Attribution au premier clic (First Click) :The affiliate whose link was first clicked by the visitor receives attribution for the conversion, even if other affiliates contributed later.

IN.Important metrics & KPIs :

  • Conversions : Conversions refer to desired actions performed by users in response to a marketing campaign or advertising strategy. These can be purchases, registrations, downloads or any other specific action previously defined, and they measure the effectiveness of a campaign in terms of the results obtained.

  • Turnovers: It is the total amount of sales made by a company during a given period

  • ROI (Return on Investment) :The return on investment, measuring the effectiveness of an affiliate campaign in relation to the costs incurred.

  • Impressions : Number of displays of advertising banners.

  • Capping : Establishment of a spending ceiling (CPC) that the publisher cannot exceed.

  • The opening rate : Indicator, emails, recipients, percentage, engagement.

  • Click-through rate : metric used in marketing to assess the percentage of recipients of a message (such as an email, online advertisement, affiliate link, etc.) who clicked on a link included in that message

  • EPC (Earnings Per Click) : The average amount of commissions generated for each click on an affiliate link. Publisher profitability. Calculated as follows: commissions/click. The higher an EPC, the more profitable the publisher is.

  • PPC ( Pay-per-click) : online advertising model where advertisers place ads on a platform such as Google Ads and pay a commission each time someone clicks on them
